Questions
- What is a construction method statement?
- A safe-work method statement (sometimes a 'safe work procedure') sets out how a specific construction activity will be carried out safely — the scope, the step-by-step method, the PPE required, who supervises it and their competency, and the emergency procedures. It's a core health-and-safety document under the Construction Regulations 2014.
- Is a method statement required for a tender?
- Very often, yes. Public- and private-sector construction tenders routinely list method statements as returnable documents, and a principal contractor is required to have them as part of the health-and-safety plan under the OHS Act and Construction Regulations 2014. Submitting well-structured method statements is also a mark of a competent contractor.
- What must a method statement include?
- At minimum: the scope of the activity, the method or procedure step by step, the personal protective equipment required, supervision and competency requirements, and emergency procedures. This generator prompts for each of those sections and produces them in a standard order.
